What a mission to disembark the cruiseliner, but all went well, and we finally boarded our coach again. We drove for 2 hours to the port of Patras. The most exciting part of this drive was crossing the Corinth Canal, and we were fortunate enough to see a ship coming through and then preceded the trip through the scenic route of the Peloponnese region of Greece.
We arrived at the port of Patras and were told to be very vigilant, as many Albanians come here to try and stow away, under busses, cars, whatever opportunity they can find, to catch a ride to Italy. Very sad to see them squatting, and so obviously desperate to get out. They apparently go through extreme measures, where they will strap themselves in engine compartments on the coaches, and travel that way for miles (if they are not caught)..I have attached a few photos of these squatters.
Our overnight ferry is massive, and actually very lovely inside. The bottom levels are full of trucks, and of course our coach to. Some people ferry their 'Winnebago’s, campers, caravans, and they actually 'stay overnight' inside their campers and vans, deckchairs and all. Will see if I can get a photo of that.
Well, we only get off the ferry at 10.30am tomorrow, so I will have time to buy some internet airtime, load all this up, catch up on emails etc....so the last relaxing bit before the next 2 weeks of rushing from one tourist spot to the other, but this is the best part to come...and, I will have internet hopefully again everyday....
