We set sail aboard the cruisehip 'Louis Majesty' (1800 passengers)andset sail to Greek island of Mykenos. It took a couple hours to get throught the emergency drill on deck, but then afterward we had the afternoon to explore the ship. It was much bigger than I expeced, so here I am on a luxuray cruise liner..but it's not the 'Princess line', but its good enough for me, as its my first cruise.
Food everywhere, as much as you like, anything you like, but..... every single drink you want will cost ya dearly, coffee, water, wine, juice etc! Also all the excusrsions to the various islands cost you extra, travel agents never mentioned that, So needless to say, I am NOT doing ALL the excursions except for Mykonos and Santorini, I just sat back enjoyed the scenery and soaked up the atmosphere of the places.
Mykonos was lovely, we had a free evening there, we just got on a bus, and was dropped in the tourist area, I enjoyed the whiteness, cleanliness of the island, almost innocent, the people very friendly, the trinkets, clothes and shopping was just lovely. Most of all I enjoyed, the 'little Venice' of Mykonos, that was only an apitiser for the real Venice to come. We saw a spectacular sunset with some good new friends-Maurine and Tony (Kiwis) and of course Carole, we had some wine and pizza to watch the sunset, millions of cameras clicking away, before we had to rush and get the bus back to the cuise ship by 10.30pm.
Once all onboard, we set sail overnight for Turkey (Kusadasi) overnight - I opted not to do the extra excursion to ancient Ephesus & house of virgin Mary, so I buddied up with another member of our group that was floating free, and we hit the Turkish Bazaars at 8am. I was very surprised at Turkey, my first impression was it was so clean, the people so friendly, and they try anything to try and get you in their shops, and they are so funny, they will not tell you the price of any items unless you inside the shop, then you bata, as they do not want their neighbours to know their prices. The minute you pass someone's stall, they up and ready to bargain and bata and coax you in, ask where you from from and invite you to buy, The markets were quite posh, extremely clean, and I wished in the world I could afford a persian carpet, they are just so beautiful, but expensive, to think a hall runner will take almost 18 months to finish at a cost of $2000! Again very sad too see the street dogs, I made a mistake of patting one dog, then he followed me every where...just needing a bit of love!
I bought the most gorgoeus piece of Turkish art at the market, that is my personal mission for Europe- to buy art from everywhere..this one is about 40 yrs old...it's a belly dancer excuisate detail finely hand paintied.......this one was by far the most expensive, but I have collected a few watercolours sofar. My other collection is of course keyrings from every port and country. All my key ring collection from everywhere, are so heavy already, I have to keep them in my suitcase, maybe even buy another!....I just love every single trinket...and it will be my memory for every place I visited.
I had a very relaxing day today onboard, and probably the best coffee I had sofar was in Turkey, it has been just undrinkable everywhre else sofar (just too strong)! .....we set sail at 12pm for the Island of and arrived at 4pm, some of the regulars in our tourgroup sat on the back of the pool deck, drinking a few wines and having lunch, then most had to rush and get ready to do the excursion on Patmos Island. Again, I took reclining chair with my wine on the top deck, and just watched the frenzy of ferry's, tourists getting on one ferry after the other. It was nice to have some time off and recover from the mad rush, this tour is certainly very rushed and go-go-go. We left Patmos at 9pm and set sail for Crete-Heraklion arrival 7am.
